In Television Advertising, there are 8 different styles used. Humor, Parody, Shock, Surrealism, Repetition, Sex and Famous Faces. Theses style help draw attention to the viewers that are watching the adverts.
Humor
Cadbury's Gorilla Advert
By using humor in adverts it catches peoples attention and makes people watch the advert, If they enjoy the advert, it helps them remember what the advert is and what the advert is trying to sell to the audience. Humor can be seen in this 2007 Cadbury's advert where a Gorilla is seen playing a set of drums to a Phil Collins song. This causes humor because it is odd seeing a Gorilla play drums and it causes people to laugh at the advert. I think this style is most appropriate for this product because by putting such a odd thing in a advert for chocolate, it causes the advert to be remembered by anyone who watches it and they remember the name of the product that is being shown in the advert.
Parody
(Normal advert)
(Parody)
John Lewis advert 2013
The style that is being used in these adverts is Parody. By using Animation to make the advert look cute to all the people that are watching it. In the original advert for the Christmas advert for John Lewis, it is all sweet and cute to give it the whole Christmas feel of love and caring. We then get the Parody that put a twist on the whole advert at the end, It keeps up the whole cute feeling until the end where the hunter comes out and shots the bear which makes the parody more memorable then the actual advert because of the bear being shot, shocking all the viewers that are watching it. People make these parody's of adverts such like this because they want to show what they think of the advert or it's because they wanna show what would really happen in real life.
Shock
safe driving adverts
These's adverts use Shock to get the attention on people who drive. This style makes the audience feel sad but makes them more aware of what can happen if they do not stay safe on the road. The way that this advert is so memorable is because of all the shocking images that are used such as people getting hit by car or cars being hit by other cars ect. I think this style is most appropriate for the service it is trying to sell because the service is trying to sell safer driving to people and I think that this is successful because if you are a driver and you watch such a horrific advert such as these, it makes you think more about being safer on the road, such as watching the road more carefully, not texting/calling someone when driving and going at a safe speed.
Surrealism
Japaneses Banana Advert
By using Surrealism in adverts, it makes the audience think about the advert more to understand it. If the understand it they then chose if they liked it or not. Surrealism is seen in this advert because of the man who has banana's coming out of his ears, his nose and from the back of his head, which causes the advert to become memorable to it's audience. This could make the audience feel a little uncomfortable about it or they could find it rather funny. Either way you remember that the advert is advertising bananas. This advert can be successful with children. When children see this advert, it could possibly make them ask their parents to go buy more banana, which is good for the parents because it means that their children wants to eat healthier,
Intertextuality.
In this advert, Intertextuality is used. With in this advert you can see a man that is running late to get home to his family on Christmas. We can also see how Sky has put in the movies that they would be showing over the Christmas holiday and the man is acting like he is a part of all the movie clips that are being shown. The audience possibility in a good way, specially the children because it attracts there attention to the advert and gets them excited to watch the movies that are being shown over the Christmas holiday.
Repetition
In this advert, Repetition is used. Repetition can be seen in the song that is sung in this advert. The repeating of the name of the object that is trying to be sold (Keds shoes) it makes the audience that is watching the advert remember the object because it is constantly being mentioned through out the advert, making people want to go and buy the shoes because it also mentions how good they are to play sports in, which attacks young boys and also girls if they like to play sports.
sex
Diet Coke "Gardener"
This advert uses 'Sex' in it. This can easily be seen when the attractive Gardener takes off his soaking t-shirt off in front of the group of women and their all stare at him in a sexual way. This advert draws in the female attention because of the attractive young man taking off his shirt, showing off his nice body that a lot of woman look for in a man. By doing this, it causes females to buy the product more because every time they see the diet coke can, it will remind them of the man in this advert.
Famous Faces
This advert uses Famous Faces in it. By using Famous faces, it makes people want to watch the advert more because they get to see their favorite artists or actor in the advert and buy the product because they have seen their favorite artist or actor using or drinking or even eating the product that is being advertised to them on the screen. By using Famous people in adverting, it helps the product sell quicker and bring in money for the people who are selling the product.
